Former UFC light weight champion, Charles Oliveira, will fight for the first time in Brazil in Brazil against Rafael Fiziev in the main event of UFC Rio on 11 October. It may seem like a quick change for Oliveira, who has just lost through vicious FFirst-Roundko to Ilia Topuria in their title fight in June. By the time it rolls around, there will only have been 105 days between the two fights.
Oliveira has always been a game, and perhaps the allure of again fighting in his home country led him to be prepared to return to the Octagon so quickly after a large knockout. Oliveira is currently one of the biggest stars of the UFC and is the perfect name to give a map in Brazil.
Yet it may be worth mentioning that fighters have made the mistake in the past to jump back too quickly in the Octagon after a knock -out loss, where the most famous example was Alexander Volkanovski, who lost via the first round Ko at Islam Makhachev at lightweight before he would be beaten to ILIIA LEAGER.
Rafael Fiziev is perhaps one of the most dangerous light weights that Oliveira could have returned to. Fiziev Hasgonet 1-3 in his last four, but it must be considered that two of those losses were in very narrow fighting against Justin Gaethjie and the loss against Mateusz Gamrot ended in a rather unfortunate leg injury that saw him for more than a year out of effect. Fiziev is extremely dangerous on the feet, with Ko wins over people like Renato Moicano, Brad Riddell and Rafael Dos Anjos. He is extremely fast and has strength and shows some striking capacity of world class during his time in the UFC.
For Charles Oliveira it will be a matter of how much he has recovered since the fight against Topuria. If he can handle the power of Fiziev, it gives him the chance to use his very diverse and his elite bjj. His more well-rounded MMA game is perhaps where the Brazilian has the advantage in this fight, and if he can keep the fight on the ground, it would be difficult to propose a scenario in which he does not win this fight.
