The UEFA Champions League has delivered some incredible action over the last two nights, so it’s time to reward the best – and worst – of what the competition had to offer in the third matchweek.
Champions League prizes:
Moment of the week
There is so much to discover during the midweek promotion, but one young lad stood out above all.
On a team full of star talent, 17 year old Lennart Karel stole the spotlight for himself just four minutes into his first Champions League start for Bayern Munich.
The attacking midfielder darted away from the surrounding Club Brugge players before unleashing a stunning strike beyond the goalkeeper’s reach.

The Barcelona midfielder only recovered from an injury last week Fermin Lopez returned to the Champions League with a bang on Wednesday to score the first hat-trick of his senior career.

The Spain international could also have scored a fourth against Olympiacos, with his header forcing a superb save from Konstantinos Tzolakis in the 48th minute. It was the only bright spot in a terrible evening for the Greek goalkeeper, who will be happy to see Lopez’s back.

Goal of the week
With 71 goals across two nights – the most ever in a single match week – how do you pick just one? Good, Robert Navarro made it a relatively easy decision in the end.
The Athletic Club forward received the ball on the left flank, shifted the ball to his right foot and fired the ball into the top corner of the Qarabag net. Refined.

Help of the week
Nick Pope briefly became a quarterback Wednesday night, launching the ball about 65 yards with one arm toward Harvey Barnes, who did the rest. The winger sent the ball home at the far post to double Newcastle’s lead as they beat Jose Mourinho’s Benfica 3-0 at St. James’ Park.

Save of the week
Spurs lead a charmed life on Wednesday, while Monaco created chance after chance on Wednesday. They never managed to break it thanks Willem Vicariswho made eight saves. The highlight of which came in the 74th minute when the Italian reacted quickly to stop Jordan Teze’s point-blank header.

Cryer of the Week
Galatasaray followed up their victory over Liverpool on matchday two with a dominant win over Bodo/Glimt. The Turkish team was excellent in the first half and did not need any help in creating chances.
But Frederik André Bjorkan gave them their second goal of the evening, mindlessly passing the ball straight to Victor Osimhen, who then rounded the goalkeeper.

Statistic of the week
Arsenal are just real estate when you’re playing in the Champions League at home. Their impressive 4-0 win over Atletico Madrid was for the Gunners ninth consecutive home clean sheet in the group stage or league stage of the competition, the first time a team has ever done this. Since returning to Europe’s premier tournament in 2023, they have won their nine home group matches by an aggregate score of 27-0. Impermeable.
