CEO Angus Kinnear talks about the winter transfer window and progress so far

It’s been over a year since The Friedkin Group acquired Everton Football Club and to mark the occasion, CEO Angus Kinnear addressed fans to discuss the club’s progress over the summer and upcoming winter transfer plans.

Everton signed nine players this summer, bringing in notable names such as Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Jack Grealish, along with the addition of young talents such as Thierno Barry, Tyler Dibling and Adam Aznou, who have yet to establish themselves.

The club also extended the contracts of Michael Keane and Idrissa Gana Gueye, while Jarrad Branthwaite was also signed to a new long-term contract.

“The recruitment structures we have put in place, combining world-class analytics with industry-leading talent identification and player trading capabilities, have paid off,” said the Everton CEO.

“The signings of Jack Grealish and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall may have rightly stolen the headlines and confirmed our principle of only signing players who were willing to crawl over broken glass to wear our shirt, but I believe we have made equally deft decisions about the players we have retained to provide continuity, and in the acquisition of emerging talent. While it is important to be patient with young signings, we are confident they will make an impact in the months and years ahead. have.

“The extensions of Michael Keane and Benjamin Button, Idrissa Gana Gueye, have proven to be good decisions, combining data and coaching input to retain talent that might otherwise be overlooked.

“Also, Thierno Barry, Merlin Rohl, Tyler Dibling, Charly Alcaraz and Adam Aznou may have had limited minutes as a collective so far, but they have shown through their hard work at Finch Farm that they will be able to contribute at the highest level.”

Despite the signings, the Blues are currently facing a period of crisis, with multiple injuries and the absence of Iliman Ndiaye and Idrissa Gueye due to international duties. As such, fans are expecting a number of arrivals in the winter window to ease the pressure and aid the Toffees in their bid to compete in European football in the second half of the season.

However, Kinnear has stressed that the club will not resort to short-term solutions as the aim remains to tackle a new phase of rebuilding next summer.

“In January, Sky Sports’ transfer window ticker will count down in milliseconds in an attempt to spark a trading frenzy among their viewers, but all our experience shows how challenging the winter market is to deliver quality and value,” he added. “We will work to identify and execute on opportunities that will make us stronger in the long term. But these opportunities will have to be exceptional, and we will avoid short-term solutions that will weaken our hand for phase two of our rebuild next summer.”

‘Only sign players who were willing to crawl over broken glass to wear our shirt’Is… hyperbole alert! Or maybe we can get this guy to contribute as a freelance writer and add some much-needed sparkle to our dull and boring articles…???

[Just kidding!] Although it sounds a lot like expectation management that we have come to know and loathe.
