What is the most important thing that the Celtics have to learn next year?

Mark Aboyoun

That they are going to lose games – and that’s okay. It has been a while since this team and the fan base. Has really experienced a regular season. Even without Jayson Tatum I still expect that Boston ends well above .500. But there will be games that they have to win and not, simply because they miss a top five player. There will be times when someone has to take over and make a play – usually that is tatum, but he will not be here next year. Jaylen Brown has shown that he can perform, but with more defensive focus on him, there will be updates and downs. This group is still talented enough to win many games, but to adapt to inconsistency – and learn from it – will be part of the process.

First of all, my hope is that the Celtics accelerate their attack to look for more transition options and to rely less in the Half -Court game. Without Jayson Tatum who uses the ball in the set attack, they must find another way to take good photos. There is nothing better than the current game to do that.

Secondly, play hard every night and make life difficult for the opposition. Yes, the grid is stripped. Depending on what Horford does, the Celtics will start with the season that four or five of their core of the last two years will miss. Also the expectations are low-this will not be another 60-win season. But the Celtics cannot allow themselves to think that way. They have to hang out, see what happens with the recovery of tatum and making the play -offs. Maybe win a play -off series. That would be a successful season, and they could have the satisfaction to play the “nobody in us”.

The only aspect of the game that the Celtics will really have to learn is how they can play as a team. Jayson Tatum does so much for them in terms of scoring, playing, gravity, defensive and rebound. All that will disappear next year. The active boys will be confronted with much more defensive pressure than they are used to, and they must be more active than they are used to. Everyone’s roles and responsibilities have just grown, and the most important thing is that the players learn how to manage it together. They cannot get caught up to do everything themselves with this increased chance – they have to grow in the system, even if the system looks a bit different this year.

Learn what you have with the young boys. Summer League was not great for Baylor Scheierman, but I think he still has the chance to be a good player in the competition, his death was good in the summer and the end of last season. Jordan Walsh is probably on his last legs, but if they still like him, they have to see what they have. Josh Minott, Luka Garza, Neemias Queta and the Rookies too. They have to see who can be on the next Celtics champion behind Tatum, Brown and White.

If you close your eyes and propose what the schedule will look like the 2026-27 season starts, you probably see Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, Derrick White, Payton Pritchard and … everything else seems blurred.

So I think the most important thing the team should learn next year starts at the top. How well does Jaylen Brown adapt to be the star and focal point of the attack (as well as opposing defenses)? Can he make enough play to make the people around him better? Can he get off the ball soon enough to get him back later?

As a bonus I will look to see how much white and pritchard can rise with larger roles.

The Celtics must learn whether one of their young boys can help the team win Banner 19. Those characteristics are fun. Can one of these players build skills by the time that the play-offs of 2027 are worth around for 11 minutes in the semi-final of the Eastern Conference? The Celtics must find out. Over-indexation when prioritizing winning this season by Gorges Niang or Anfernee Simons to play too many minutes, giving players like Gonzales a mistake on the couch. Play the young boys. If they are bad, the Celtics will choose higher in the design; If they are good, the dynasty is up again
