Until recently, George Cheeks spoke one of the 3 CEOs of the previous Paramount Incarnation about the decision to cancel The late show with Stephen Colbert.
During a press conference after the takeover of Skydance, he confirmed that it was a financial decision.
“The challenge in the late night is that the advertising market is in a significant secular decline,” he said. “We are big fans of Colbert, we love the show. Unfortunately, the economy made it a challenge for us to continue.”
He added that as soon as Taylor Tomlinson, hosting After midnightrefused to return for another season in the lock that used to be occupied by The late late show with James CordenHe knew that the network “could not stay in that day”.
But he refused to confirm how much the Late show Lost and only said it was “important” and in the “tens of millions of dollars”.
