(WOODSTOCK, VA — 10/19/2025) —-Frank Chick’s dazzling 2-year-old harness racing mare Caviart Daisy (Dear Lou) continued an impressive freshman campaign on Sunday with a dominant nine-length victory in an $8,000 Virginia Breeders’ elimination pace at Shenandoah Downs.
The daughter of Dear Loufresh off a wire-to-wire performance a week ago in the first round of eliminations, nosed behind Caviart Amore Mio’s leading step in the quarter – written in: 28 2/5 – before moving forward. Driver Tony Morgan, competing for the third time ever at Woodstock, guided Caviart Daisy to additional panels of: 57 1/5 and 1:26 4/5 before crossing in 1:55 3/5, over nine lengths ahead of Caviart Farms’ runner-up Caviart Amore Mio. Dan Chansky’s Watch Sparks Fly finished third.
Julie Collins’ Caviart Santa Fe took the second division for fillies, occupying the field in 1:59 1/5. The daughter of Tall dark stranger finished second behind Caviart Daisy a week ago, but avoided her on Sunday. Driver Eric Davis led the Alex Goldin trainee to the first quarter trophies in: 29 2/5, 1:00 1/5 and 1:30 3/5 before hitting the wire 2 3/4 lengths best. Chuck Perry’s Luna Speaks came in second and Dan Chansky’s Watchoutforda IRS finished third.
Ramona Gillespie’s Caviart Trenton had the best time after a pair of stallion- and gelding-pace eliminations in completing a wire-to-wire effort in 1:56 2/5. The Captain Crunch The gelding had a similar performance in a first round win last week when he won by 13 lengths in 1:57.0. Reinsman Tim Deaton was in the sulky for both and prevailed by 5 3/4 lengths for trainer Janet Davis on Sunday. Tony Alagna & Caviart Farms’ Caviart Cadet finished second and Scott Wogen’s Michelle’s Kyle finished third.
Alagna’s other colt, Hungry Joe, bounced back from a third-place finish last week to reach the winner’s circle on Sunday with a two-length win in 1:57 3/5. Driver Anibal Borjas was on his bike in front of the Stay hungry colt who achieved his first lifetime victory. Caviart Sheridan by Dr. Round one winner Edward Ward finished second, while Alagna’s Caviart Tucker finished third with Billy Carter aboard.
The $320,000 Virginia Breeder’s Championship Day card is this Saturday, October 25e when the pacing and trotting finals are contested for both sexes. Winning colts from Saturday’s eliminations were KR Breeding LLC & Robert Rudolph’s Caviart War Room (2:02 3/5) and Bob McKim’s Kalispel (2:01 2/5), while filly winners Thestable Cherrys Girl & Hutchinson Harness LLC’s Cherry’s Girl (2:02.0) and Stuart Chambers Racing, Bcjm, Inc. & Divine Horse Racing’s were Wolfpack One (2:01 1/5).
