Cargo ships anchored in Columbia River

Bullish Percent Indicator data last Friday required no changes for those managing Sector BPI portfolios. Carson is a Sector BPI portfolio and the oldest managed here at ITA.

Consumer Discretionary (VCR) was sold out of the Carson when the Trailing Stop Loss Order (TSLO) was applied as the market fell a few days ago.

At this point we are patiently waiting for one of the sectors to drop into the oversold zone or for 30% of the stocks within the sector to show a bullish signal. We collect or observe this data using BPI information in StockCharts.

Carson performance data

As of December 31, 2021, the Carson is once again leading the S&P 500 (SPY) – albeit only slightly. This is especially notable because it is very difficult to consistently outperform this broad index.

Carson Risk Ratios

On a risk-adjusted basis, the Jensen Alpha is at a very high level (6.88) for the Carson portfolio. This isn’t really a highlight for the year, but it does challenge that position. The information ratio also performs very well.

All four values are higher than a year ago.

The Risk Ratio data underlines how well the Sector BPI investment model works.
