Jamie Carragher got involved in a public argument with Rio Ferdinand after Mo Salah’s name rang out from the Kop during our 2-0 win over Brighton.
The former Manchester United defender tapped the Liverpool legend Xin which he asked for his opinion on the song.
Carragher’s response was immediate and unashamed.
“And rightly so, he was fantastic when he came on,” replied the ex-centre back, before turning a sharp focus on FIFA and World Cup ticket prices.
Carragher’s attitude reflects Liverpool’s perspective
The main point was not the argument itself, but what Carragher wanted to emphasize.
The Sky Sports pundit was critical of Salah’s comments after the Leeds draw but still distinguished between performance, principles and standards.
That balance is important at Liverpool.
Salah came off the bench against Brighton to provide an assist, helping Hugo Ekitike secure another decisive brace at Anfield.
Carragher’s recognition of Salah’s impact was in line with what we saw on the pitch rather than what dominated the headlines.
It also echoed what the Egypt international’s teammate said after the match, when Curtis Jones explained: “The most important thing that Mo made clear was that it is not against the team.”
That distinction is important in a locker room that has remained united.
Carragher and Slot emerge reinforced

What has quietly shifted this week is not Salah’s status, but Arne Slot’s authority.
Arne Slot left Salah out of the trip to Milan and then brought him back on his own terms against Brighton.
Carragher himself indicated this in his Telegraph column, in which he wrote that the Dutchman did so “came out of the week stronger than ever.”
The 47-year-old’s handling of the situation was later publicly supported by the captain, with Virgil van Dijk emphasizing that “We move forward as one.”
Liverpool’s recent form underlined that point.
We are unbeaten in five games, including a Champions League win at Inter, and the noise has not derailed our progress.
Salah now heads to Afcon after not starting any of those five games, while we have managed to maintain our composure.
Carragher may have been tough on the player, but his wider position remains consistent.
Call things out when standards deteriorate, dial back performances when they deliver results, and never lose sight of what Liverpool actually stands for.
That, more than any emoji or exchange, is the part worth paying attention to.
