Carlos Prates issues fresh, creative appeal focused on Islam Makhachev

Two-division UFC champion Islam Makhachev responded to fellow welterweight Carlos Prates’ recent Instagram video of Prates munching on Nutella-covered pancakes.

Many UFC fans have taken note of Prates’ eating, smoking and drinking habits. But even though he enjoys life outside the octagon’The Nightmare’ hasn’t let that affect his performance in the UFC.

The No. 6 ranked UFC welterweight recently became the first man to defeat former champion Leon Edwards. Before his UFC 322 knockout win against Edwards, Prates also had a knockout win against Geoff Neal at UFC 319.

Prates caught Makhachev’s attention while eating Nutella-covered pancakes while wearing a papakha (a traditional fur hat worn in Dagestan, Chechnya and the Caucasus). The Brazilian also cleverly declared himself the P4P king by using Sabina’s famous song “Dagestan” in his video.

When Islam Makhachev praised Carlos Prates

During fight week of UFC 322, Islam Makhachev was shocked to see Carlos Prates munching on Nutella cakes. The same night Makhachev became welterweight champion by dethroning Jack Della Maddalena, Carlos Prates also knocked out Leon Edwards.

During the post-fight press conference, Makhachev praised Prates and expressed surprise at how someone who smokes cigarettes and eats Nutella cakes can perform so well during fight week. The Russian fighter said:

‘I’m surprised that this man [Carlos Prates]who smokes all day, beat the former champion… I don’t know who his nutritionist is… He’s good. Crazy performance. Finish the former champion. Make it [look] simple.”

The promotion has yet to announce Islam Makhachev’s next opponent for his first title defense at 170 pounds. Meanwhile, among other top contenders, Prates has also previously called out the champion, opining that he is the “easiest fight for Islam.”
