Carlos Alcaraz will return to defend his title at the Kinoshita Group Japan Open Tennis Championships in Tokyo in 2026, the tournament has confirmed.
The No. 1 player in the PIF ATP Rankings triumphed on his debut at the ATP 500 event last year, dropping just one set en route to the title, beating Taylor Fritz in the final. It was one of eight Tour trophies that Alcaraz won in 2025.
The 22-year-old Alcaraz has started his 2026 season emphatically, winning back-to-back titles at the Australian Open and the ATP 500 in Doha. With his first title in Melbourne, the Spaniard became the youngest man to complete the Career Grand Slam.
With his victory in Tokyo last year, Alcaraz joined fellow ATP No. 1 Club members Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Andy Murray and Novak Djokovic as winners of the ATP 500 event.
Alcaraz has a 12-0 record in 2026, according to the Infosys ATP Win/Loss Index, and is more than 3,000 points ahead of rival and world No. 2 Jannik Sinner at the top of the PIF ATP Rankings.
