Cardiff Power Beside Guildford | Pro hockey news

Cardiff Devils remained unbeaten and at the top of group A in the Challenge Cup with an impressive 7-1 win over Guildford Flames in a sold-out Vindico Arena.

A quick start saw the Flames take the lead within three minutes when Charlie Curti’s shot sailed from the point by a crowd of players for Ben Bown’s and found it just at 2:43.

Cardiff became stronger as the period progressed and smarter when Jimmy Oligny’s shot at 14:41 was tipped by Nolan Yaremko to Justin Fazio was wrong. The flames could have regained the benefit, but were refused by the post, and instead Cole Sanford transferred the Devils in the front with 1:25 in the period.

Sam Duggan took almost 3-1 from it when he hit the bar early in the second, but Ben Davies was in the right place to hit a loose puck after 27 minutes before the third of the devils. Josh Macdonald added a fourth just over five minutes later to give Cardiff the control.

The devils withdrew at the start of the last period. A neat attitude of MacDonald allowed Brandon Estes to bring third place of just 27 seconds in the third, before Yaremko added his second and Kristoff Kontos shortly thereafter to bring the hosts to seven goals within a three-minute period.

A melee for the banks resulted in six players who received fines, including an excrement for the former Devil Tyler Busch. That turned out to be the last major incident, because the Devils saw an extensive victory to remain unbeaten and top of group A.
