Apart from his stunning loss at Terence Crawford, Canelo Alvarez admitted that the Pound-for-Pond Koning might be even greater than Floyd Mayweather, a rare concession of the largest star in Boxing.
“We already knew that Crawford is a great hunter. I did what I should do. I try it for all ways, I have trained very hard and he deserves all honor,” Alvarez told reporters including cagesside press at his press conference after the fight.
“I did my best tonight, and I just can’t figure out the style.”
Alvarez (63-3-2), praised for a long time for dealing with triumph and heartache with the same class, made clear on Saturday evening how much respect he has for the man who has just defeated him. Crawford put on what many called a master class and a style that caused Alvarez problems.
“Everything. Everything. He has everything,” he said referring to what Crawford did that caused him problems.
Probably the biggest quote from the press conference in the comparisons between Crawford and Mayweather. Alvarez both fought them, albeit at different times in his career, and gave his opinion about who the better boxer is.
“I think Crawford is much better than Floyd Mayweather,” he said.
As the A-side of the matchup, Alvarez reportedly earned between $ 100 million and $ 150 million for the competition. With the game behind him, Alvarez looked at the future, but without urgency to fight again quickly.
“The only thing I think is that I want to enjoy my family, my daughter who has just been born,” he said.
