In the men’s pulling in Toronto, Alexander Zverev has set up a fourth round draw against Francisco Cerundolo with a 6-7 (5-7) 6-3 6-2 victory against Matteo Arnaldi in Italy.

The victory was the 500th victory of German touring level of his career.

“It’s a great achievement. There are not many players who have reached that milestone,” said Zverev.

“Of course I still want to get 500 hopefully, and maybe even more.

“If you start your career, you want to play on tour, do you want to have a successful career, win as many matches as possible.”

Former world number one Daniil Medvedev was eliminated by defending champion Alexei Pofyrin.

The Australian overcame the Russian 10th seed with a 5-7 6-4 6-4 victory to book a draw with Fifth Seed Holger Rune in the next round.

“I felt that I should have won that first set,” said Pofyrin, who led Medvedev 4-2 before he lost the opening set.

“I was sitting on the driver’s seat, I felt that I was really at ease there, and then something happened.

“I let go a bit and I started to feel my photos a bit. When that happens, when you play a fast pace against him, he starts to feel the ball a little more.”

Third seed Lorenzo Musetti collapsed from the tournament after the Italian was 3-6 7-6 (7-4) 6-4 beaten at 26th Seed Alex Michelsen of the United States in the third round.

Michelsen’s victory sets up an All-American Clash in the fourth round where he could be confronted with student Tien or Reilly Opelka.

Eighth Seed Casper Ruud also reached the fourth round with a 7-6 6-4 victory against Nuno Borges and will be confronted with 11th Seed Karen Khahanov, who conquered Emilio Nava 6-7 6-4 6-1.

The Francisco Cerundolo of Argentina was better from fellow countryman Tomas Martin Etcheverry in straight sets and will be confronted in the next phase with top seeds Alexander Zverev or Matteo Arnaldi.
