Cincinnati-Canada’s Felix Auger-Aliassime and Gabriel Diallo went on to the third round of the Cincinnati Open in Herenhonkslagen, while Leylah Fernandez left the ladies’ stretch on Saturday.
Auger-Aliassime, who received a Bye until the second round, won 6-2, 7-6 (3) about the Tomas Martin Etcheverry of Argentina.
The 23rd Seed from Montreal hit 14 Azen and 30 winners in the one -hour match, 57 minutes. He also kept all four breakdown opportunities with which he was confronted while converting two of his four chances during the ATP Masters 1000 event.
After Auger-Aliassime had rolled to a first victory, Etcheverry forced a tiebreak in the second. The 25-year-old Canadian, however, jumped out to a 4-0 lead before Etcheverry hit a forehand long at the match point.
It was the first victory of Auger-Aliasassime since Wimbledon after he lost to the Fabian Marozsan van Hungary in the second round of the National Bank Open on July 30.
Diallo defeated Sebastian Baez of Argentina 7-5, 6-4. The 23-year-old will be confronted on Monday with number 1 ranked Jannik Sinner.
In the meantime, Fernandez expanded her losing series to two games since recording the DC Open title in July.
The 22-year-old from Laval, Que., Was sown 21st but fell 6-3, 6-3 against Jessica Bouzas Maneiro of Spain, who made up for four of her six breaking point opportunities.
In women’s doubles, the second seeds Gabriela Dabrowski won from Ottawa and partner in Routliffe from New Zealand with 7-5, 7-5 about Hsieh Su-Wei by Taiwan and ENA Shibahara of Japan in the first round.
The Canadian tennis sensation Victoria Mboko, which rose until the 24th in the world ranking after winning the National Bank Open Women’s Singles Crown on Thursday, withdrew from the Cincinnati open to rest her wounded right -wing poles.
The 18-year-old Mboko is expected to take the court in the US Open later this month. She will be sown on the last Grand Slam of the Year.
