Stick Together programming is succeeding in communities across Canada
Hockey Canada does excited to keep our members informed about the activation of this year’s Community Sport for All Initiative (CSAI) by celebrating are commitment to serving underserved communities across Canada. Thanks to the support of the Canadian government Community Sports for All Initiative (CSAI)Field Hockey Canada has secured insurance $800,000 in financing over two years. This first disbursement of funding made possible the launch of 60 community-oriented hockey projects about 10 provinces and one territory, reaching more than 90 communities And almost serve 30,000 participants.
The fall intake for community applications launched last week
This funding is a huge step toward Field Hockey Canada’s goal of growing the sport by making hockey more accessible and inclusive for all Canadians. The CSAI is designed to deliver results for underserved communities by removing barriers and increasing participation among communities underrepresented groups, including Black, Indigenous, Racialized, 2SLGBTQI+ individuals, low-income families, individuals with disabilities, newcomers, and seniors. Below you will find some descriptions of some of the many initiatives taking place nationally.
EXAMPLES OF COMMUNITY INITIATIVES FOR 2025
Atlantic Field Hockey Club – Halifax, Nova Scotia
Under the leadership of Alan Wintermeyer and Tess Akland, the Atlantic Field Hockey Club is making impressive progress in Halifax through its Stick Together initiative. With more than 300 participants to date, the club has partnered with organizations such as YMCA and ISANS to offer free or low-cost hockey sessions to newcomers and low-income families. Reaching schools was a key focus, with demos at more than 15 schools and more than 250 students who had already been introduced to the sport. The club is another great example of what FHC’s Stick Together support can deliver. Make use of the boost that Stick Together financing offers bringsthe club is are now looking for a sustainable income and support network within their local community. This includes working with local politicians to raise awareness and investing in equipment and social media promotion to increase participation in Halifax and the local region. Upcoming activities include free beginner sessions and an ISANS open day.
Vancouver Hawks Field Hockey Club – Vancouver, British Columbia
The Vancouver Hawks run a successful Walking Hockey program geared toward individuals age 55 and older. Supported by Stick Together, there are 57 participants access now hockey at low costs. Ssessions Are held at Eric Hamber Field in Vancouver and led by Teresa Schwartz and Valentina source. Walking hockey offers a modified, low-impact version of hockey that promotes physical activity and social connection. The program continues to grow and… stays open for new registrations.
Panjab Sports and Cultural Club – Calgary, Alberta
This club from Calgary is to use FHCs Stay together financing providing inclusive hockey opportunities for low-income families And visible minorities right through Calgary. Of hundreds participants who are already involved, the program growing and now works at locations throughout the city including the Genesis Center, the University of Calgary and the Khalsa School. Led by Sukhdeep Bhangra, the initiative helps break down barriers and promote community engagement through sports.

Port Alberni Field Hockey – Port Alberni, British Columbia
Port Alberni’s revamped hockey program is thriving thanks to the efforts of the Alberni District Secondary School grassroots and the broader community. Led by Andi Shannon, Giles Wheatley and Kristi Wolff, the initiative supports both junior and senior high school teams and a growing youth club program. With over 100 youth already benefit, the financing has barriers to participation are removed and enabled the program to flourish, providing support Unpleasant high-quality sports experienceshelped by additional obligations training as a coach and mentorship. The program has been expanded by 25% this year is is now bringing hockey back to life in this rural community.
RND United Field Hockey – Riverview, Moncton, Dieppe, New Brunswick
RND United Field Hockey, led by program director Liudmyla Shokuris building a vibrant youth development program in southeastern New Brunswick. Aimed at children and young people from 6 to 18 years old this program is expandthing with Stick Together support and continues to do so feed teamwork, trust and discipline for marginalized youth. The training takes place at BGC Dieppe during the winter; with summer sessions scheduled at Bernice MacNaughton High School. Looking ahead, RND United strives establish inclusive adult teams, creating a sustainable hockey community in the region.
Whistler Field Hockey Club – Whistler, British Columbia
With support from Field Hockey Canada’s Stick Together grant, the Whistler Field Hockey Club is offering free sessions to low-income residents and newcomers to the Sea to Sky Corridor. Led by Florencia Tomaghelli and the club’s Board of Directors has already welcomed the initiative tens participants in the first session, with plans to reach more than 70 this year. Sessions at AVJ Field and Bayly Park involved both novice and experienced players, culminating in a full 11-on-11 match that energized the local hockey community. The club is committed to continuing inclusive programming year-round.
Play for all Hockey ID – Victoria, BC
Play for All Field Hockey ID is an inclusive program in Victoria, led by Veronica flat plate and a team of certified coaches with experience in adaptive sport and performance psychology. The program targets children and youth with intellectual disabilities, as well as Indigenous, low-income, newcomer and racialized communities. The sessions take place indoors at the University of Victoria in a fully accessible facility, free of charge and with equipment provided. The organizers are proud of the success to date, building on two years of experience and partnerships with local organizations. The ongoing goal is to promote skill development, social connection and joy through a safe environment.
