Can the Dodgers still land Tarik Skubal without Tyler Glasnow in the trade package?

Despite rumblings that Tyler Glasnow could head to the Detroit Tigers in a deal for top pitcher Tarik Skubal, the 6-foot-1 right-hander put those rumors to rest.

Even more intriguing, Glasnow hopes the team trades Skubal to play alongside him.

There isn’t a huge need for the Dodgers to go out and acquire more starting pitching given the depth that Los Angeles possesses. However, it’s the Dodgers – and if an elite player is made available, chances are the team will check in and assess what level of feasibility exists in potentially adding them to an already ridiculously talented core.

With Glasnow seemingly off the table, is there a way to get Skubal? Detroit will certainly want to be competitive, as evidenced by their recent addition of veteran relievers in Kenley Jansen and Kyle Finnegan.

A framework for a deal between Skubal and LA will need to include two key components:

Talent that is ready for the big competition

Detroit won’t accept a package that doesn’t include players ready to help the Tigers immediately. They were just shy of competing in the ALCS last season and appear to be the heavy favorites to win the AL Central in 2026.

Emmet Sheehan should definitely go the other way. He would be a big win for the Tigers as a young, super-talented, team-controllable asset who would be inserted into the starting rotation immediately. If Detroit pushes for additional pitching that can contribute from the jump, a few names from a group of River Ryan, Gavin Stone, Justin Wrobleski and Ben Casparius could be sent the other way.

From a position player standpoint, Alex Freeland and Dalton Rushing would both likely offer some real value as possible trade chips.

Minor League Outlook

Additional assets will certainly come from the loaded Dodgers farm system. Since the team had a large concentration of outfields at the top of the rankings, one of those candidates – likely one of Mike Sirota or Zyhir Hope – would head to Motor City. Jackson Ferris is currently the team’s most promising pitcher.

There are also a plethora of high upside players spread across the farm system that could be a real draw depending on what Detroit wants to improve. Speedster Kendall George, infielder Chase Harlan, former first-round pick Kellon Lindsey and recent acquisition James Tibbs II could all be options.
