Host: “Why don’t we start with the Flames, who have only won once this year. I think you were on the same page as me, thinking they would be competitive, maybe not a playoff team, but competitive. Campbell thought they would be terrible. What did you make of their start?”
NHL Rumors: It’s Too Early For The Calgary Flames To Start Selling, But
Anthony Di Marco: “It was hard to watch, because I think so Craig Conroy had the right had the right idea going into the offseason after an impressive, somewhat surprising season last year. But he’s making the moves for later in the season Joel Farabee and Morgan Frost to try to strengthen that young group. I believe they are both 25.26 years old, and am trying to speed up the rebuilding process.
But coming into this season, the defense has been a little improvised. They are looking for a left-shot defenseman, while also trying to move some bodies, and (Daniil) Miromanov, who was waived two days ago. Jake Boon they would ideally want to move, based on conversations I’ve had with people in the organization.
But I think you’re just now starting to see the cream rising to the top, and this is a team that has a lot of older players on some long-term contracts. One that will likely want to move on from Rasmus Andersson before the trade deadline and a young group of players that simply aren’t good enough.”
Host: “Who wouldn’t want Rasmus Andersson?”
NHL Rumors: Will Rasmus Andersson re-sign with the Calgary Flames
Di Marco: “I mean, I think everyone would want Rasmus Andersson. Like, a right-shot defense plays in all situations, has a track record as a top-pair shutdown guy. And again, it always comes back to the Vegas Golden Knights.”
When a key player is available, you should default to the Vegas Golden Knight, and his former partner has signed a long-term contract with Vegas in Noah Hanifin. So I think every competitive team is looking for Ross Anderson. But I mean, if you look at the most likely trade destinations, the Vegas Golden Knights is the low-hanging fruit option.”
