Cam Rowston will walk to the Octagon for the first time this Saturday and debut at UFC Perth against experienced middleweight Andre Petroski in a matchup that will test the Australian newcomer directly from the gate.
Rowston (12-3) will make his UFC debut on the same card as teammates Navajo Stirling and Carlos Ulberg, who mark a special evening for the Australian middleweight.
“Yes, it’s how I would certainly like to do it. We have a large team that feels like the pressure in Vechtweek. You are a little more distracted with the teammates in a good way,” Rowston told reporters on Wednesday.
“There is a good chat. A lot is happening and we don’t just go up and sit in a hotel room and think of food. We go out, we take some team walks and we go into the park in the sun. It was really fun.”
In Perth, Rowston will be confronted with Petroski in what is considered an unusual matchup for a UFC debutant against an established middleweight. It is a challenge that he says he is grateful to hug.
“It’s a good matchup. It’s just like just throwing me in the fire right away. This is my chance to catapult myself in the mix of the middleweight division,” he said.
“I would rather do it this way than slowly climbing my way in about 3 or 4 fights.”
