Las Vegas – Middleweight Cam Rowston has already booked its UFC debut and did this the same night he won his fight Dana White’s Contender Series.
Rowston (12-3), who finished Brandon Holmes on Tuesday, immediately called for a place on the upcoming UFC Perth, and received the go-ahead of UFC CEO and President Dana White himself just as quickly.
“I really wanted to make my UFC debut on a home floor in Australia. I have friends in Sydney, family throughout Australia, and I know they will appear for this,” Rowston told media, including Cageside Press after the fight.
Most fighters hope for an explosive finish, perhaps with a performance of the night bonus, in their UFC debut. However, Rowston said when he was asked how he sees his fight in Perth in Perth going, that he is actually looking for a split decision, and a bloody one.
“In my perfect world I have a three-round war, blood everywhere, cuts, and I stand there with the referee, and he calls it and it is a split decision, I get my hand lifted,” Rowston said. “It’s the best feeling ever. The expectation to win, it is, that’s what I live for.”
Rowston wasted life in his early 1920s when MMA gave him something bigger to strive for. That happened around the time he started training with some other Australian talents who were flirting with the UFC.
“When I was around, I think it was 20, 21 years old, I started training with a man who was in the UFC, Richie Walshand his partner Brendan O’Reilly”Rowston remembered. The couple had appeared The Ultimate Fighter Nations: Canada vs. Australia.
“A rising tide drives all the boats, and I just got better and better. They brought me down all the time, and in the end they stopped me so much to get them down. I started beating them a little more, they hit me a little less.”
Eventually Rowston started to think: “” F*ck, maybe I can do this. ” “His training partners had similar thoughts.” Then they said things to be like “yes, you should shoot it” and I was like “f*ck, why not?” “
He did, and now Cam Rowston has arrived in the UFC.
