A doctor in California accused of giving friends Matthew Perry access to ketamine in the weeks before the actor’s overdose has been agreed to argue, according to federal prosecutors.
Dr. Salvador Plasencia will argue for four counts of spreading ketamine, federal prosecutors said in a statement on Monday. The plea has a maximum sentence of 40 years in prison and the doctor is expected to make his plea in the coming weeks.
Perry – The best known for playing Chandler Bing on friends – was found dead in October 2023 in his hot tub in Los Angeles. He was 54 and although he had been open about struggles with depression and addiction, fans around the world were shocked by his death.
According to SMS messages shared with public prosecutors of Dr. Mark Chavez – A doctor who has already guilty in the case – called Dr. Plasencia Perry a “idiot” and wondered how much he would be willing to pay for the drugs.
According to documents that were submitted for the pleid agreement, Dr. injected Plasencia Perry with ketamine in his house and in the parking lot of the Long Beach Aquarium. Dr. Pasencia learned to give Perry’s assistant – who is also a suspect – how to administer the medicine and would sell extra bottles for them to stay at home, according to the plea.
The doctor is one of the five people in charge of what prosecutors claim was an underground network of dealers and medical professionals who delivered Perry from Ketamine. The actor took legal, prescribed quantities of the drug to treat his depression, but wanted more than what was prescribed.
In total, the Pleidooi agreement, between 30 September 2023 and 12 October 2023, says Dr. Plasencia sold twenty 5 ml (100 mg/ml) vials ketamine, less than a full package of ketamine suction tablets and spraying to Perry and its assistant.
Dr.’s lawyers Plasencia could not be reached immediately for comment.
