Reeschy-de 18-year-old from Macklin, Saskatchewan-Heel demonstrated a lot of promise during his junior career. He only played two full seasons in the WHL and next season he will make the switch to the NCAA to play for the University of North Dakota.
In his first full season, Rny immediately left his mark in the WHL and he registered almost one point per game. His play played heads and landed him a place in the Canada Red U-17 team for the U-17 World Hockey Championships. During the tournament he held the impressive game with eight points through seven games.
Rny continued to improve his game in his concept year. He made the U-18 World Junior Championship team, where he won gold. Together with that he went to the Hlinka-Gretzky Cup, where he also won gold. He was easily the best player on the royals last year, leading the team in scoring and had a strong two -way match. He continued that in the Play -Offs, 25 points scored in the 11 games of the royals: nine goals, 16 assists.
Strong points
Hockey IQ
The biggest thing in the game of Reeschy is his hockey -iq. The way he sees the game on the ice is something others can do. Both and next to the puck he does the right things in all three zones and places his team in a place to succeed. He creates space and creates both shooting and passing lanes to make the game to his teammate or to shoot the Puck himself. Finally, for his IQ, he anticipates the play, especially on the defense, so that he can take control of the puck again.
Defensive consciousness
That expectation is what his extremely strong two -way game creates. He on average about five take -away restaurants per match, and he will start the other way on a breakout. As a center you keep much more responsibility on the defensive end. Reeschy gets up to that challenge and assumes that responsibility; It is what makes him such a big leader on the ice. He uses his Smarts to quickly set the game the other way.
Puck control
Finally, on those counterattacks, Reschy keeps control of the puck and carries it without messing around. His soft and fast hands enable him to cheat defenders and create space to make a play. When he is at full speed, he does not sacrifice the puck and holds him all the way on his knife. It makes him extremely dangerous on the counterattack or a strange man.
Weaknesses
Power
Although Rny is a great player, this does not mean that he is perfect. Multiple areas of his game can continue to improve, one of which is his strength. He is not afraid to start puck fights and take hits; However, he does not have as good as he should. If he can start more with body checking, he can get even better.
Turnover
If you are the most important playing fighter for your team, sales will certainly happen; However, they can still be a reason for concern. Sometimes it is simple to play the better option instead of taking it all alone. If he finally makes the step up, it should be better because he will not drive. Seeing him, however, change in advance, can translate his play into the NHL.
Skating
RESCHY’s skating is in no way bad. The problem is that his first few steps are not where they can be. His start-up speed is not at the NHL level and requires quite a bit of work before he makes the leap. He has a few years earlier, but it is of the utmost importance that he improves, otherwise it will be difficult for him if he goes up.
What is the next step for Reeschy
Cole Reeschy is already a very solid hockey player and can get even better. Next season he will play for North Dakota in the NCAA. He gets the chance to promote his development against older competition, where we will see what he was really made of. His two -way game has already been built; If he can work on those few parts that it is needed, he will certainly become an old NHL player.
