(I have experienced many low points in my 50 years as Dodgers fan, but last night the game she might all have gone. I think I have finally seen what many other Dodgers fans have seen for years. Time for Dave Roberts to go. Also time for cardboard appreciation! This is the 356th in a series):

You look at my 537th purchase from the Topps set of 1975. Yes, I am still on this thing. This year this year is in fact 10 full years since I first decided to collect the return in the ’75 set in an attempt to get one of each card.

I then knew it would be an impossible task. I still know that. But I also had no idea that I would get that far in the search. I have passed on 80 percent of the set in return form (81.3% to be precise). Didn’t even know that there were so many to chase.

Even with the boost of 2024 Heritage, the search is becoming increasingly difficult – the prices have been stroked on some of those I still need and I am all too aware that some collectors I need without planning to give them up. And now there is something else – the post office is in my way.

The Joe Rudi card arrived after my ordered Manny Sanguilles -Berugkoop was lost in the post. It was the second time I lost the Sanguille card. One was bought a few months ago at under my cart.

So I was happy to see the Rudi for sale, another remarkable name from that set. I placed my order in mid -August and waited. And waited. And waited.

It was originally estimated that it arrived on August 28. Then it decided to be on vacation for a week in Nashville. I hope it had a good time because I missed it fiercely. And I started to think that this return hunt might not be worth it anymore. What does the Post Office have back purchase? Perhaps someone is insulted there by 1975 Topps maps – at least that I could understand.

I was ready to chalk it and to ask for a new repayment when I suddenly saw that the package had traveled to Virginia. Progress! It still had a day too long there, but finally …

I had my purchase of 537th. And it arrived the day before Rudi’s 79th birthday! So maybe that is all that it was waiting for.

There is another purchase from ’75 that I need, that is now my shopping cart. I’m a little scared to order it.
