Buxton: still no plans to refrain from no-trade clause

3 minutes, 40 seconds Read

With rumors about the twins that may work as deadline sellers who are swirls in the midst of this year’s All-Star, Star Center Fielder Byron Buxton Active indicated that he did not feel like waiting for his full no-trade clause and looked forward to being a twin for the rest of his career. Minnesota did indeed go the seller’s route and did this with much more powerful than someone could provide. The twins sent ten players, including shortstop Carlos Correa (signed by at least 2028) and a quartet of verifiable relievers: Jhoan DuranGriffin JaxLouis Varland And Brock Stewart. Even after their aggressive schedule purification, Buxton has doubled on his full intention to stay in Minnesota.

“Only because we are going through these heavy roads … it is what it is,” Buxton said reporters two days after the Trade Deadline (Videolink Via twins.tv). “We will be better if we get there on the other side and pick things out a little more. End of the season, we will talk a little more, but I’m not going anywhere.”

Some can hold on to Buxton’s remark about talking “a little more” at the end of the season, but Buxton was even more emphatic then Chat with Dan Hayes of athletics:

“It’s always good to be desired. Don’t get me wrong. But the only place I want is Minnesota. All my choices are easy. I don’t have only one place in my mind. That’s how it will be.”

Hayes reports that six or more teams are his hand to the agent of Buxton to gauge the willingness of the outfielder to abandon his protection without trade while Minnesota started with a much wider demolition than someone who expected to enter the deadline. Both the Braves and the Mets had particularly strong interest, per Hayes. Dennis Lin of athletics tweets That the Padres also belonged to the teams to inform, as they would expect, given the tendency of the President of Baseball Operations AJ Preller to check in almost every high -profile name that comes on the market. It was clear that Buxton was not interested in pursuing a change of environment.

Buxton, 31, is in the fourth season of a seven-year contract extension of $ 100 mm that covers the 2022-28 seasons. It is paid $ 15 mm annually, although the contract contains up to $ 8 mm annual stimuli based on MVP votes and a potential $ 2.5 mm annual bonuses based on plate performances. Of course, if the talented but often wounded Buxton would ever remain healthy for a full season and maximized those incentives with an MVP victory, he would still be a bargain, even with the blown $ 25.5 million in that season.

The 2025 season is one of the best in Buxton’s career to date. He hits .282/.343/.561 with 23 home runs, 14 Doubles, four triples, 17 steals (in 17 attempts), a running speed of 8% and a strike out percentage of 26.6% in 364 plate performances. According to WRC+, he is 45% better than League Average from an attacking point of view, and the outs of Statcast above average (+4) regards him as a constantly strong defender (although defensive runs save a -1 mark on him -the first negative of his career). Statcast Meet Buxton’s average sprint speed (30.2 ft/sec) as the second best in the game, only chased Bobby Witt Jr.‘s 30.3 ft/sec.

Perhaps on the road, Buxton will eventually soften its position on that no-trade facility, but even in the aftermath of seeing almost 40% of the major League schedule that is traded elsewhere, he sounds planning to stay in the Twin Cities.

It is still not clear to what extent the schedule of the twins will overstrain when the low season rolls around. The Pohlad family, which the team has had for four decades, is investigating a sale of the franchise. That clearly played an important role in the Deadline flurry of the team, especially in the move to exchange Correa (a movement that dropped more than $ 70 mm from the long-term payroll). If there is a new owner or an agreement to sell the club, the new group may be willing to spend next year and make a renewed urge. If the Pohlads remain in place, it seems likely that veterans like it Pablo LopezJoe RyanRyan Jeffers And Bailey Ober They could all be on the market with a view to the further scaling of the financial obligations that a new owner would inherit.
