Buter takes five as Pocono week resumes

WILKES-BARRE PA – After being forced to cancel its scheduled Monday schedule by Mother Nature’s wrath on the northeastern U.S., Pocono Downs in Mohegan Pennsylvania was able to complete the bookends of race week on Tuesday, and the favorites generally fared well despite temperatures remaining in the mid-20s.

However, the $15,500 trot feature saw many longshots making the biggest checks. International Moni mare Moni Multiplier, second at 61-1 in her 2026 bow, was fielded this week at 8-1 and won in 1:58.4 as she defeated Vanguard (25-1), Brother Love (14-1) and Melissa P (39-1), a Superfecta that forced a transfer into that pool.

MONI MULTIPLIER REPEAT

Now 50% in the win column since teaming up with trainer Neal Ehrhart and owners JMF Racing LLC, Moni Multiplier was patiently steered by driver Jim Pantaleano: Sitting in second place, Moni Multiplier was held by Pantaleano into the far turn in the two-way as the favored net weight was launched wide off her back, but the winner found permission from the blind switch after the sweeper broke and then closed on its own to take the win very late.

Tyler Buter, winner of the 2025 Driving Dash title at Pocono, showed he was still a major threat this campaign as he visited Victory Lane five times. After receiving his Rising Star Award in Florida on Sunday, Braxten Boyd won three races on Tuesday, while George Napolitano Jr. and Ridge Warren doubled. On the training side, Pocono queen Ron Burke, who took home many trophies at Sunday’s awards banquet, defended both of his winners ridden by Buter; the other doubling conditioner, Cote Keim, had his victorious attacks led once by Buter and once by ‘George Nap’.

The excellent early-season racing at Pocono will continue next week, with a trio of $27,500 events scheduled: fast events for both trotters and pacers on Saturday, and a distaff pacers handicap event on Monday. The next Pocono card is Saturday at 1 p.m. and, in addition to the aforementioned races, features four $17,000 divisions of the third and final preliminary round of the Game Of Claims Pacing Series, with no horse base tagged this week at $30,000 that can post wins in the five divisions of both first two legs.
