Busan Friday: Race-by-Race Preview (January 30)

The weekend’s racing starts on Friday in Busan with a 9-race card from 11:15 am to 5:55 pm. Here are the previews:

Busan Race 1: Class 6 (1300M) Special Weight A/KRW 45 million

Only for three-year-old girls and despite the small field of participants it is very competitive. (1) DUBAI SEONMUL ran 2^i.e upon debut over 1200M) on December 28^e slowly left before he walked further. Seo Seung-un is there today, the extra half-furlong is possible, and with a better start she is the one to beat. (3) FAST WIND was almost 2^i.e upon debut in a fair time of over 1200 million on December 19th^eestablish midfield and run further. He should have come on and is a danger. (6) BUNKER BUSTER was a beaten favorite in his debut on December 28^e race behind Dubai Seonmul and he can match or even better that here. (2) QUEEN MAKER and (8) SUNRISE both finished in 2^i.e places in their respective debuts and should not be dismissed.

Busan Race 2: Class 6 (1200M) Special Weight A/KRW 30 million

Pretty miserable of it all so far, but at least that makes it interesting from a puzzle perspective. (2) DOCTOR CHAMP has a best of 6^e in three starts, but looked good in the trials. He has had plenty of opportunity to do that and if he brings the form he showed in last week’s heat to the races he has as good a chance as a good draw. (12) POWERFUL THUNDER is a 5^e and a 7^e in two starts so far. Times have been slow, but at least he seems to know which direction to run and that puts him in contention here. Of two debutants, (10) MAN OF THE DAY is perhaps the best. He was adequate in his process and Franco’s booking stands out. (5) POWERFUL BATTLE and (7) CHOEGANG CHEETAH, with the latter beating Man Of The Day in their trial before debuting indiscriminately, though at least he was on pace early, others who can improve.

Busan Race 3: Class 6 (1400M) Special Weight A/KRW 30 million

(4) LIKE DRAGON is an eleven starter but has been close in his recent efforts, most recently beating three of current rivals en route to 3^rd at this distance on January 4^e when convenient anywhere. The same student holds him under a light weight, and a similar effort can make him win this. (3) TOP OF THE RANK has weakened in both of his last two miles and a good draw and back into the trip allows him to lead and stay a little better this time. (2) DOKKI TIGER didn’t do much in start number two on this Boxing Day trip, but rather hinted at skill at age 5^e on debut and can get another chance here. (11) BREDO ARENA and (9) WONDERFUL WIND are others to consider.

Busan Race 4: Handicap Class 5 (1400M) / KRW 45 million

(6) BORYEONGUI SINYONG debuted in 4^e placed last August and went on to win over 1200 million on November 28^ecoming from the tempo. She was much further ahead when she defeated three of the current rivals when she was three^rd on her first attempt in this class and distance on January 2^i.e. She stays under a light weight and can win here. (3) MOMENTUM took her first win at start number three over this distance in a filly that won Boxing Day and raced on pace throughout. She is higher in class but lower in weight and from a good draw she can be at the front again and compete. (10) YOUNGYOUNG BRAVO similarly tops his class after overcoming a wide gate to race handily and win over 1300 million, including on Boxing Day. He gets a 3kg weight break and the small step up in the trip shouldn’t be a problem. (8) GLOBAL HIGH gets an end to his last and together with (9) SUCCESS COW there is still a chance of place.

Busan Race 5: Handicap Class 5 (1300M) / KRW 45 million

(12) JANGGO MAN was a winner on his debut, scoring comfortably with a fast effort over 1200 metres. He only gets a 1kg drop and he has the challenge of the widest gate, but he has every chance to go back-to-back. However, he will have to beat the likely market pick in the form of (5) CRYSTAL MULGYEOL. She achieved her first victory over 1200 million at the end of October and has a 5^e and most recently a 3^rd in two attempts in this class. In this company she should be on speed and Franco rode her when she won. (8) PISTOL CUT was an outright maiden winner two starts back before becoming the beaten favorite on her first attempt in this class over 1200M on January 9^e when Apdojeok Numberone raced away to win. Another one that should be on pace, she’s definitely worth another chance. (1) GWANGSOKMA and (3) BLUEORCHID others on the hunt.

Busan Race 6: Handicap Class 5 (1600M) / KRW 45 million

Competitive breed. (1) ENCORE was a winner at start two and was very consistent at this level with a 2^i.e and three 3^rd place finishes make up his last four, of which his two most recent ones cover this distance. He has his fair share of weight to deal with, but getting inside the gate could be the key for him here. (4) FANTASTIC EAGLE won similarly on its second outing and has proven competitive in three attempts in this class with a 5^e and a pair of 4^e place ends. It extends to a mile for the first time, and that’s possible. (2) THIS WAY comes in back to back 3^rd place finishes in this class over 1300M. Both times she raced home at high speed, so it may be to her advantage to get back within a mile. (9) FLYING CHAMPION and (12) GOLDEN SPOT among many other place opportunities.

Busan Race 7: Handicap Class 4 (1600M) / KRW 60 million

(6) FANTASTIC FORCE ran 3^rd in the G2 Breeders’ Cup Rookie over 1400M in November, falling well off the pace, then finishing his junior campaign with 2^i.e place behind Funny Wild on his first attempt at this distance on December 28^e. He is higher in his class, but lower in weight and should be far too good here. (8) FLYING CROWN scored a first victory in the 1400M in November, before finishing fourth^e at this distance on Boxing Day. He likes to sit back and run, and he can do his best work late here. (5) AMAZING WORLD returned from three months off and ran a close 2^i.e more than 1,400 million on January 2^i.e with this lesson and can become a strip fitter today. (2) BLACK VOLT and (10) BLAZING MAN are others in the placement frame.

Busan Race 8: Handicap Class 3 (1800M) / KRW 75 million

(4) BEOLGYO MASULSA is winner of five of eleven, including his last in this class and distance on January 2^i.e if you tour all the way around. He has the fixed value of 57.5 ​​kg on his back today, but he can repeat this after a great draw. (7) TRIPLE SINHWA won consecutive one-mile races at this distance in October and November before finishing second^i.e when he was favorite he raced against many of these, on December 19^e. He can sit here conveniently and can stand again in the finish. A student is taking his weight today and he seems to have solid claims. The danger is (7) EUNBIT DAERO. He was 3^rd on January 2^i.e race, his third consecutive time finishing in that position. He comes a bit heavier but can be included in the mix again. The rest will have to pick up a bit on their respective latest efforts. (11) ARION KING CAR struggled at a mile last time out but is coming back on a ride that has seen both his wins and three placings and he can be there.
