Bunting -Team on Newmarket Weather Watch for Cesarewitch Favorite | On the races

Connections of Club Godolphin Cesareswitch Handicap Favorite Bunting expressed their concern about the prospect of fast land in Newmarket on Saturday.

Both trainer Willie Mullins and owner Tony Bloom have a great record in the Marathon event, together with Stratum to take the prize home in 2019, one of the three consecutive winners for the Master of Closeutton 2018 and 2020.

Brighton & Hove Albion -President Bloom has also tasted CesarseWitchCitch Glory thanks to the Roger Charlton winner in 2017, but his search for a third victory in the race can be hindered by the unreasonable circumstances that Bunting can encounter on the Rowley Mile.

The five-year-old has been subject to a lot of support since his fine run in the defeat behind Donnacha O’Brien’s Happy Pharoah in Leopardstown last month, but the General 6-1 market leader appears far from certain to be in line at this stage.

Bloom’s racing manager Sean Graham said: “He was very good at Leopardstown on the Irish Champions -weekend and the plan is to walk in the Cesareswitch, but the ground is drying out and he is a soft ground horse. We can really do with some showers for that time, but the weather forecast does not predict that.

“I don’t think we want him to work well and I think it would be a wasted journey if the soil was good to support it is an out-and-out soft ground horse that wants to bring in his toe.

“I would be worried about fast soil, especially because he is also a large horse and the waves of newmarket, and we have had bad luck with him this year because he had no soft ground at all to continue, even about obstacles in the spring.

“We have never received the soft land he needs in three trips about obstacles in the spring and in the second week of October, you would think that you would get a soft soil at this time of the year, but we don’t have that.

“I thought that when he went to Leopardstown that when he goes to Newmarket in four weeks, at least we know that the soil will be slower, but it is not, it is faster. So we will play it by hearing and talk closer to that time.”
