Junior defender Gavin McCarthy will lead the 2025-26 Boston University men’s hockey team, the team announced on Monday.
Junior Jack Harvey and second -year students Cole Eiserman and Cole Hutson were called assistant captains.
This is the second time that an McCarthy will wear the ‘C’ for the terriers. Gavin’s brother, case, captain the team of 2023-24, which continued to the Frozen Four. The Brothers of McCarthy are the second brothers and sisters who serve as captains for BU since Mike (2001-2002) and Jay (1995–96) Pandolfo, each of whom ‘C.’ put on.
This marks the second consecutive season that BU has mentioned a junior as a captain and the third consecutive year that a second -year student has played a role within the leadership group.
McCarthy, a Clarence Center, NY, Native, has only missed one match in his first two seasons with the Terriers. Last season he placed a 3–13–16 Stat Line and recorded 77 blocked shots about 39 games. He was appointed as the NCAA Toledo All-Regional team for his Postseason version as a second-year student. Two of McCarthy’s goals came in championship matches, one against Notre Dame in the Friendship Four and another against Boston College to help BU secure his 32nd Beanpot title.
Harvey broke out in the second semester of his first -year season and wore a similar sentiment through his second season. Harvey appeared in all 40 games last year and ended with a 11–16-27 line. He registered nine Multi-Point matches in the 2024-25 season, one of which helped BU push to the NCAA Regional Finals after an 8-3 victory over Ohio State. He was also appointed as the NCAA Sioux Falls All-Regional Team in 2024.
Eiserman led all NCAA -first -year students with 25 goals, including four during the National Tournament, who led the Terriers to the national title competition. Eiserman scored a crucial goal in the third period of the Terriers victory over BC in the Beanpot championship. He earned a place on the Hockey East All-smokie team next to fellow assistant captain, Hutson. He ended his first season in BU with a 25-11-36 line.

Hutson was the National Rookie of the Year and a first team All-American. He completed his first -year campaign that led among all NCAA defenders in points (48) and assists (34). Cole is the third Hutson brother who is part of BU’s leadership group, after his older brothers Lane, who wore an ‘A’ in the 2023-24 season, and Quinn, who wore it last year.
“I am excited that Gavin, Jack and the Coles are voted to lead our team this season,” said head coach Jay Pandolfo in a press release. “They all had an impact for us on the ice here during their time here, but they have also given a good example of what is needed to succeed in the weight space and in the classroom. It is clear when they are around them, that they are all proud to be terriers and all four will remain large representatives of the university if we again compete for a national title.”
