MANCHESTER CITY
Rayan Cherki (knock) will be assessed today after the hobble at Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.
“He took a blow and we’ll see how he feels today.” – Pep Guardiola on Rayan Cherki
Ruben Dias (hamstring) was training again on Monday, but as expected that was not the case Jeremy Doku (calf). Pep Lijnders expressed hope last Friday that Doku’s recovery time would be “slightly shorter” than his previous absence of 18 days.
“Ruben [Dias] started training yesterday and Jeremy [Doku] not yet.” – Pep Guardiola
Johannes Stones (thigh), Like Guardiol (leg), Matthew Kovacic (single) and Savinho (thigh) are all still sidelined.
Antoine Semenyo can feature in this tie, as he did at St James’ Park three weeks ago. Marc Guehi However, that is not possible: he is not eligible because he is signed after the first leg of the semi-final.
NEWCASTLE UNITED
Bruno Guimaraes (ankle) looks set to miss out again for the Magpies, although there is some hope he could be fit for Gameweek 25’s visit to Brentford.
“Bruno is doing well. I don’t think he will make it to this match, but there is a chance for next weekend.” –Eddie Howe
Elsewhere it is mixed news Lewis Miley (knee) and Sven Botman (both). These two were unused substitutes on Saturday, because they could not get on the field due to injuries.
Botman will be fit for the rematch with Manchester City, but Miley is a major doubt.
“Sven is fine. Lewis, I’m not sure he’ll make it to this game either.” –Eddie Howe
Elsewhere, Fabian Schar (single), Emil Krafth (knee), Tino Livramento (hamstring) and Joelinton (groin) stay outside.
Newcastle are the busiest Premier League team from now until March and Howe was asked about his rotation policy as the games come in quick succession.
“There is a lot of thought going into our team selections at the moment, and there has been [the case] the whole season. We have tried to choose the times when we rotate. We don’t want to rotate too many at once. I try to limit it to two to three, maybe four, per game to make sure we give the players the best opportunity to perform first, so they come onto the field in good physical condition and of course try to minimize injuries.” – Eddie Howe
