Bruno Fernandes put in a spectacular performance as Manchester United climbed to sixth place in the Premier League, beating Wolverhampton Wanderers 4-1 at the Molineux Stadium.
Fernandes made his first appearance for the Red Devils just 24 hours after signing for the club from Sporting CP in January 2020, facing a tenacious Wolves team.

Fast forward to 2025, and Wolves look like a weakened shadow of that side, languishing in 20th place in the Premier League, still without a win this season and having lost thirteen games, with their latest defeat coming to United.
Ruben Amorim’s side recorded a 4-1 victory at the Molineux, with Fernandes orchestrating almost every quality moment in the performance.
The Portuguese midfielder opened the scoring thanks to a catastrophic defensive error from Andre, allowing Matheus Cunha the freedom to advance.
Instead of shooting himself, Cunha opted to pass the ball to Fernandes, who, despite slipping, turned away from his marker and calmly tucked the ball into the net.
Fernandes then perfectly executed Mason Mount’s goal to restore United’s lead to 3-1 after Bryan Mbeumo had pulled one back.
He later converted a penalty to seal a 4–1 win, marking United’s most dominant result of the campaign to date.
Impeccable performance
Despite only getting one assist, Fernandes’ influence was huge as he created five chances, the most of any player on the pitch.
At full-time, the 31-year-old completed 55 of his passes and 12 in the final third, which was the most of any outfielder on the pitch. He was also key to keeping United’s game flowing and was right in the middle of things, with a towering 85 touches as United retained 64% of possession.
As spectacular as he is in the final third, Fernandes’ games, as has been evident since he joined the club, are not solely based on the attacking side of the game. He has proven to be a workaholic and generally ruthless in his press.
The Portuguese was back at his ruthless top level, winning five games at full-time, while his two goals and assists on Monday night meant he has now contributed 10 goals in 15 Premier League games this season.
Ruben Amorim will be hoping his captain stays at his best in their next series of games against Bournemouth, Aston Villa and Newcastle United, and Ruben Amorim will be hoping his captain stays at his best, especially in the absence of Bryan Mbeumo and Amad Diallo, who will be heading to the African Cup of Nations.
