Bruce makes breeding debut at the APG Ipswich auction

Ipswich horticulturist and hobby breeder, owner and trainer Bruce Wyborn is excited about his first foray as a seller at the Australian Pacing Gold QLD Yearling Sale on Sunday 8 February.

Lot 23

Wyborn, the man who produced the champion trotting mare Susan Is Her Name, offers a beautiful filly by Top Ten sire A Rocknroll Dance as Lot 23.

“She’s the first one I ever sold at a yard sale anywhere,” Bruce said.

“She is a nice big filly with a good character.” The bay filly was prepared by Burwood Stud and is the first foal of Tascott Lady, who won eight races – three in Victoria, four in Queensland and one in NSW – and $60,574 in stakes.

“Tascott Lady was my first Group 1 horse. She raced in the Breeders Crown final at Melton as a two-year-old,” said Wyborn.

“I got her pregnant with Captain Crunch again this season.”

Tascott Lady belongs to a family known for producing early speed, including the QSBA Breeders Classic placegetter Diabolo Duke and the NZ Sires’ Stakes, NZ Sales Classic and Caduceus Club Ladyship Stakes placegetter Forbidden Touch

Wyborn, a groundsman at Albion Park, is certainly no stranger to the Group’s success. He bred Susan Is her Name, who has won three Group 1s to date, and her half-sister, Margaret Jean, a Group 2 Breeders Crown champion.

“Susan Is Her Name has been back at work for three months and I expect she will be heading to court in the coming weeks,” Wyborn said. “We got her pregnant via embryo transfer to Volstead.”

Originally from Newcastle, Wyborn began his association with the sport after moving to Queensland in 1991, where he helped coach David Rodgers Snr after work. For more information about this or other lots in the Queensland Yearling Sale, view the online catalog or register as a buyer today!
