Brooklyn News: Locals oppose plans for Fort Greene Church

Locals are opposing the 27-story tower planned for the historic Fort Greene Church

After more than a year of speculation about the future of Fort Greene’s landmark Hanson Place Central United Methodist Church, plans are now clear: Owners want to use the church’s shell as the base for a 27-story, 240-unit apartment tower that would rise next to the iconic Williamsburgh Savings Bank Tower.

On Wednesday, the development team presented the proposal to Community Board 2’s Land Use Committee, outlining plans to convert the early 1930s Gothic Revival church at 144 St. Felix Street into a high-rise residential building. While there was some support for the project, it was largely met with criticism from locals and board members, one participant told Brownstoner.

Prospect Lefferts Gardens limestone with extensive woodwork asks $2.25 million

There’s plenty of woodwork to drool over in this early 20th century terraced house. Fretwork, wainscoting, moldings, a pier mirror, window seats and more can all be found – and all those details seem to have been lovingly cared for. At 173 Rutland Road in the Prospect Lefferts Gardens Historic District, the house hasn’t changed hands since the 1970s, so while a new owner can expect it may need a few upgrades, there’s still plenty of historic charm.
