Broncos CB Pat Surrene II gave his most catches ever in week 2. Colts attacked him?

Pat Surtain II, his old trainer Chad Wilson likes to say, is the NFL’s version of Tony Gwynn. Or Wade Boggs.

Both were multi -year .300 batters in the MLB. Both hardly ever turned out. It costs a certain discipline in a cornerback – just like for a batter to always make contact – to always work the same representative, reflected Wilson.

“He is that one big waiting gate,” said Wilson, “for which many boys don’t have.”

The thing about being a .300 batter is of course that you are defeated seven out of 10 times. And Indianapolis defeated Surty on Sunday.

The ruling NFL defending player of the year led the Broncos with 11 tackles against the Colts. It was a stark contrast with his involvement of week 1, when he went to the Phantom mode in the Shadowtitans Wideout Calvin Ridley. Standing out that as a playmaker is involved, one thing means – he was a lot. Advanced statistics revealed that the Colts do not hesitate to go after the All-Pro corner, because Quarterback Daniel Jones informed himself nine times and completed seven of those passes.

That was bound for the most catches surchard’s ever surrendered in an NFL game during his five-year career. One game from the first quarter summarized his afternoon: Second-year Colts receiver Adonai Mitchell put his foot in the ground in a one-on-one-a-rep on the outside, returned to the ball and even assured an 8-year handle, even with an overhanging everywhere.

Surty just looked of his knees on Mitchell, the CBS broadcast with a smile on the face of the cornerback. A kind of hat tip.

At the surface level, the Colts and Jones seemed to resolve the Surty Paradox for a large part of the 29-28 victory of week 2 at the Broncos. But they did not like him specifically as part of their game plan.

On that throw to Mitchell, the eyes of Jones varied over the middle before they turned to promote the outside matching on the outside.

“I think they were on Patrick on Patrick on that Wednesday evening and Thursday evening in game plan meetings? I don’t think that’s the case,” said head coach Sean Payton on Monday morning. “I think much of it is the progress of the route.”

The Denver post buried in each of the 38 Snaps that were played on Sunday during transit situations, and the film revealed that his matchup rarely was a first option: Jones seemed to cycle through his progressions to find Surter’s recipient on five of those nine goals. Surrente gave a target for the fourth quarter, when Jones checked around and Veulens recipient Alec Pierce Sprinted who was away from Surty on Dragroute. But film did not show any of Indianapolis’s Play Plays in the fourth quarter, was specifically aimed at the man of the DPOY or his field of the field in the zone.

Surtain eventually only received 63 meters on those nine goals. He was only defeated by a step on three: Die Pierce Catch and a few first Down Slants by Colts top goal Michael Pittman Jr. It was not the best performance of Surty. But he shadowed assignments effectively on deep routes and tagged to the Tyler Warren of the Colts on countless plays, so that he only transfers one catch in two goals against the tight end of 6 Voet-5.

An ankle injury in the second quarter did not seem to shake much either. The corner said Postgame that “no excuse” was for his game. He gave about four catches as soon as he returned late in the second quarter. A catch was a box-out from Warren, and a perfect ball from Jones to Pittman that actually tipped.

“I think he could come back and he felt comfortable enough to come back,” Payton said on Monday. “But I am sure that the technology he will look at today. He will want to clean up a handful of those plays.”

Surtain was given the task with a dizzying series of assignments. Sometimes shadow. Sometimes after Pittman. Sometimes Pierce and Mitchell pick up. And his figures were largely skewed because the pass rush of the Broncos Jones could not reach, giving the Colts Quarterback enough time to cycle through his lectures.

Denver was 17 on Jones on Sunday. They ended with one bag, according to the next gene statistics.
