New British thriller The Iris affair, which pits two brilliant minds against each other in a deadly game of hide and seek across Italy, premieres on Stan next month.
The eight-part series stars Niamh Algar (Mary & George, The Virtues) and Tom Hollander (The White Lotus, Feud: Capote vs. the Swans), and tells the story of the enigmatic genius Iris Nixon (Algar), who solves a series of complex online puzzles.
Iris is then led to a piazza in Florence, where she meets charismatic entrepreneur Cameron Beck (Hollander), who invites her to work with him to unlock a powerful and top-secret piece of technology. Her curiosity is aroused, she accepts. But when Iris discovers its dangerous potential, she steals the diary containing the device’s activation sequence and disappears.
What follows is a relentless chase, from a remote cabin in Sardinia to the busy streets of Rome, as Cameron races to find Iris in a high-stakes game where trust is dangerous and failure can be catastrophic.
The series was created, written and shown by Neil Cross (Luther) and directed by Terry McDonough (Breaking Bad, better call Saul) and Sarah O’Gorman (A Gentleman in Moscow, The Witcher).
The cast also includes Kristofer Hivju (Game of Thrones, force majeure), Harry Lloyd (Arcana, Marcella), Mereana Tomlinson (The trials), Sacha Dhawan (The Great, Doctor Who), Maya Sansa (Good morning, night, sleeping beauty), Peter Sullivan (Poldark, The Borgias)Debi Mazar (Younger, consequence), Marco Leonardi (New Paradiso cinema, Black Souls), Angela Bruce (Silver Haze, Doctor Who) and Lorenzo De Moor (A simple favor 2, a nice end to the day).
It premiered in Britain last week.
The Iris affair is a co-production of Sky Studios and Fremantle.
