HM The King topped the ratings on Christmas Day in what was seen as an underperforming festive event.
The King’s Christmas messagefirst broadcast from the Lady Chapel of Westminster Abbey, it was Britain’s most watched program this Christmas, in what was seen as an underperforming day for British television.
Last year the last episode of Gavin and Stacey became the biggest Christmas Day hit since 2008, after attracting 12.3 million viewers. Wallace and Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl, attracted 10 million viewers on BBC One last year.
In contrast, none of this year’s Christmas offers came close to the 10 million mark.
Audience for long-running hits such as EastEnders And Call the midwife significantly decreased compared to last year.

Having nine of the top ten shows on Christmas Day is a timely reminder that shared moments really do still matter, even in a world with so much choice.”
