British developer Christian Candy is dumping a mansion in UES

British developer Christian Candy is handing out one of his luxury home goodies.

An anonymous buyer purchased the townhouse at 8 East 62nd Street on the Upper East Side for $55 million, according to the Wall Street Journal reported. The undisclosed buyer was represented by Michael Balanevsky of Accent Holdings.

Sales of the 15,000-square-foot limestone mansion work out to approximately $3,667 per square foot. Adam Modlin of the Modlin Group held the listing.

Candy and his wife, Emily Crompton-Candy, purchased the mansion in 2022 from Keith Rubenstein of Somerset Partners for $48 million. Rubenstein had been trying to sell the mansion for five years before the Candys came along, initially selling it in 2016 for $84.5 million.

The Candy couple renovated the mansion after purchasing it. Less than a block from Central Park, the six-bedroom home includes a grand entry gallery with a marble staircase, a reception room with a grand chandelier, and a full-floor primary suite with dual bathrooms, a dressing room, and a wood-paneled library.

The sellers put the house on the market in April for $70 million, but failed to find buyers before delisting. It came back on the market with an asking price of $57.5 million and went under contract six days after being put back on the market, a stunningly quick turnaround in today’s Manhattan townhouse market.

Christian and his brother Nick are known for developing the ultra-luxury apartments at One Hyde Park in London. Christian and his wife own properties around the world and previously lived in the Bahamas.

They also have a relatively new building in Manhattan.

Around the same time they first put the Upper East Side townhouse up for sale in April, the couple purchased a penthouse at JDS Development’s 111 West 57th Street for about $46.9 million. The unit was initially listed in 2020 for $66 million.

Their Billionaires’ Row penthouse spans approximately 7,250 square feet and offers panoramic views from Central Park to the Statue of Liberty. The unit features a media room, a 1,200-square-foot loggia and a great room with soaring 14-foot ceilings and floor-to-ceiling windows.

Modlin also represented the couple in that deal.
