Corbin, Kentucky…October 12, 2025…The United States Harness Driving Club (UDHDC) and Cumberland Run – The Mint Gaming Hall honored the Kentucky State Police “Shop With A Trooper” program on Sunday, October. 12, with Jim “Trey” Brinson speeding away from the competition with a 10-length win with his own Miki Leaks.
The six-year-old gelding son of Always B Mikialert from the wings from his post three early in the Garden, took the lead just after a :28.2 opener and put up a :56.4 track at half-way before sprinting away during a :28.1 third panel and sealing the deal with an easy 29.4 romp home, stopping the clock in 1:54.4
Rollin Dice, driven by Od Johnson, making his first pari-mutuel ride of his life and well back in fifth place in the first half mile, steered his charge onto a double bubble on the back and finished second.
Dontinvitemein, with Michael Riley tending the lines, finished third – just a nose back – after leading in the early steps of the wings and standing prominently in the yard for most of the journey.
Ayr Pioneer GB, piloted by USHDC president Dein Spriggs, finished fourth, while Julie Miller, keen to win this event with Jim Strikesitrich, took the nickel in the sharp octet.
Betting second choice Miki Leaks was owned by Steve McDaniel Jr. and paid $6.26 to win.
In a post-race interview, Kentucky State Police spokesperson and Master Trooper Scottie Pennington said, “This program has been running for many years – I have been involved with it for 30 years – and these donations received today totaling $5,000 from the riding club and the track will allow us to help literally hundreds of children in need.
“Some may be only months old and some may be teenagers – but they are all in need – and we can take them shopping at Christmas to make their dreams and wishes come true.
“From clothing and other necessities to bicycles, we put smiles on hundreds of faces and hope to continue doing so forever.”
Pennington represents just one of 16 posts across Kentucky that will host a “Shop With A Trooper” program during the holidays.
Trooper Pennington had some final thoughts and lamented, “There are not enough words to express our appreciation to the United States Harness Driving Club and the team at the Cumberland Run and The Mint Gaming Hall for their generosity. You have given a holiday blessing to so many children in need. You will make dreams come true!”
