Richarlison scored a beautiful brace, including a stunning scissors, to inspire Tottenham Hotspur for a comfortable 3-0 win over the newly promoted Burnley on Saturday, with the new manager Thomas Frank handed a perfect start to his Premier League official period.
The Brazilian attacker, who scored only four Premier League goals last season, opened the score after just 10 minutes with a sharp turn and finish. He then added a spectacular acrobatic volley in the second half before Brennan Johnson sealed the victory with a third goal.
The result marked a successful first league match for Frank, who replaced Ange Postecoglou in June and offered a welcome boost for a Spurs side that ended 17th last season.
The first goal of Richarlison was set up by an excellent run and cross of Mohammed Kudus, who took his competition debut after a £ 55 million step from West Ham. The couple again combined for the second, in which Kudus delivered a high cross that met Richarlison an emphatic overhead shovel, which was played on the stadium screens to the delight of the home supporters.
Spurs completed the score in the 66th minute when Pape Matar Sarr Johnson played on goal for a composed, clinical finish. Richarlison received a standing ovation when he was replaced shortly thereafter.
For Burnley it was a difficult return to the top flight. Managed by former Spurs midfielder Scott Parker, the Clarets were defensively determined last season in their championship-winning campaign and kept 30 clean sheets. However, they were broken early and struggled to control a lively Tottenham attack.
The visitors had rejected a strong appetite for appetite at the end of the first half when Jaidon Anthony seemed to be bundled by Pedro Porro, but their resistance faded after the spectacular second goal of Richarlison.
What is the following?
Tottenham stands for a tough trip to Manchester City this Saturday. Burnley plays their first home game of the season against colleague -promoted side Sunderland.
