The Brewers today announced that they have placed right -handed Brandon Woodruff On the 15-day wounded list of a right LAT voltage. The IL placement of Woodruff is retroactively until 18 September. Left hand Robert Gasser was called back from Triple-A in a corresponding movement and is planned to start today’s game for Milwaukee.
Woodruff’s retroactive placement on the shelf means that he is eligible to return on time before the start of the NLDs on 4 October. Of course, Woodruff should be suspended for only a minimal stint on the IL, which is far from guaranteed. According to Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal SentinelWoodruff suffers from one “Moderate” Lat tension in the words of manager Pat Murphy. Murphy added that it is too early to tell how Woodruff’s Play -off availability will be influenced by the injury, and Mlb.com’s Adam McCalvy Reports that today he sees a doctor in St. Louis to judge his injury after the tension took place yesterday during the bullpen of the right side.
At least the news brings the regular season from Woodruff to an abrupt end. Woodruff will end the regular season with 12 Starts this year under his belt, in which he threw a 3.20 ERA with a 3.18 FIP in 64 2/3 innings work while struck a sensational strike out percentage of 32.3%. Woodruff only made 11 starts in 2023 due to shoulder problems and eventually went under the knife in October of that year. That ensured that he missed the entire season 2024, and an ankle injury during his rehabilitation this season delayed his return to the big league -Heuvel until the beginning of July. He immediately returned to the top of the rotation of Milwaukee on his return and helped support the hot streak that pushed them to the top of the NL Central, but to the best record in all baseball.
The timing of this newest ailment is certainly frustrating for both the Brewers and Woodruff itself, given the proximity of the play -offs. Woodruff added that it is too early to say whether the injury could end his 2025 campaign or speculate for a timeline for return, and that he must consult his doctors before he will have a better idea of what his next steps will ultimately be.
