Murphy joined Foul Territory in talking about how much the sweep to the Dodgers still hurts.
“Everything they [Dodgers] that was effective,” Murphy said. “They threw unbelievable, and we didn’t do anything right. We didn’t sneak up on them; they knew us, and they knew they had their hands full if they didn’t play well. The timing of it all worked and came from an emotional series. It hurts because you are so close to doing something very special.”
Were the Brewers ever really a match for the Dodgers in October?
Murphy led the Brewers to the best record in baseball, even winning the regular season series with the Dodgers 6-0. However, it was a different story when the Dodgers and Brewers met in October for a chance to represent the National League in the World Series.
The Dodgers dominated from top to bottom, thanks to their elite starting pitching, to win the NL pennant. The Brewers put up a good fight, but it wasn’t enough against a Dodgers team loaded with talent.
After the Brewers were swept by the Dodgers in October, Murphy echoed the same sentiment after their Game 4 loss that he previously expressed at Foul Territory.
“I felt like we didn’t put our best foot forward in that series, and I think it would have made some difference, but the Dodgers were on it. And you know when a team is on it,” Murphy said. said.
Murphy added: “It’s just… it’s what we do. How can we figure it out consistently? And then we get into these situations, and hopefully we play our best where we’re doing well at the time and we don’t run into that kind of buzzsaw like we did. I think the Cubs series took so much out of it emotionally, and then having to come back [after one day off] and play [the Dodgers] was difficult for the boys. But that’s another learning situation for us, so here we go.”
Did Shohei Ohtani deliver the most dominant game in MLB history?
The NL Championship Series concluded with the game for the life of Shohei Ohtani. Game 4 was the Ohtani show and there was nothing anyone could do about that.
In that game, Ohtani was unconscious, hit three home runs and threw six scoreless innings with 10 strikeouts. It was the performance of a lifetime by a unique player, and Murphy and the Brewers were on the other side of it.
Ohtani won the NLCS MVP after his dominant performance and went on to win his second World Series title.
