Veteran Wicketkeeper Slagman Brendan Taylor made a comeback to the Zimbabwe test team during the second test against New Zealand, after an absence of four years due to an ICC ban. Taylor etched his name in the record books for Longevity, with his first international competition for Zimbabwe since 2021.
Brendan Taylor returned to the test side of Zimbabwe after serving a three and a half year prohibition imposed by the ICC for violating anti-corruption and antidoping rules. He had accepted money and gifts from a businessman and could not report the approach on time during a trip to India in 2019.
Taylor played for the last time for Zimbabwe in September 2021, with his last test performance in July 2021 against Bangladesh. After completing his ban, he became available for selection for Zimbabwe, which is currently following the current series against New Zealand 1-0.

Brendan Taylor will be the active test cricket player for the longest time
Brendan Taylor has become the longest serving active test cricket player. He also surpassed England Pacer James Anderson in terms of career span.
Zimbabwe’s battery made his debut against Sri Lanka in Harare and is now playing the 35th test of his career. Under cricketers since 1989, only Sachin Tendulkar has had a longer test career, which has been playing for more than 24 years.
“He (Brendan Taylor) brought a lot of calmness, he was also with the boys in the first test and has been brilliant about the change space,” said Erhine at the Toss.

Brendan Taylor at the point of becoming a member of an elite group in Zimbabwean cricket
Brendan Taylor is about to become a member of an elite group in Zimbabwean cricket. He only needs 62 points to reach the milestone of 10,000 run in international cricket. Taylor scored 9,938 points of 284 competitions, including 2,320 in tests, 6,684 in ODIs and 934 in T20Is, with 17 centuries and 57 fifties.
Taylor could only be the third Zimbabwe player who surpasses 10,000 runs. Andy Flower (11,580 runs) and Grant Flower (10,028) are the only players who achieve that. He is fourth under Zimbabwean batters in Test Cricket, behind Andy Flower, which leads with 4,794 runs on an average of 51.54.
