According to TSN’s Darren Dreger: Breaking: The @NHLJets are locking down Connor Hellebuyck so he can undergo a minor arthroscopic knee procedure. It is expected that Hellebuyck will be out for four to six weeks.”
This isn’t ideal news for the Jets, as Hellebuyck is arguably their most important player and a perennial candidate for the Vezina Trophy. In 14 games this season, Hellebuyck has eight wins, a 2.51 goals against average and a .913 save percentage.
Eric Comrie is a capable backup netminder, but where will the Jets sit after more than 20 games without their superstar in goal? Currently they are third in the Central Division with 24 points. The Jets have a 12-7 record after being last year’s Presidents Trophy winners.
Dreger added: “Hellebuyck has been dealing with this issue for some time. The star goalkeeper and team believe it is best that it is taken care of now, rather than allowed to linger.”
As a result, goaltender Thomas Milic has been recalled from the Manitoba Moose.
