Kazakhstan extended their perfect record to five matches after a thrilling five-set battle with hosts United States, winning 3-2 (27-25, 25-21, 22-25, 17-25, 15-12). The result left the Kazakhs at the top of the standings after previous wins against Italy, Canada, France and Poland.

Poland also remained strong in contention as it opened the day’s program with a 3-0 (25-15, 25-16, 25-18) win against Thailand and later recorded a 3-0 (25-18, 25-9, 25-19) result against Italy. Canada fought back from two sets down to beat Thailand 3-2 (24-26, 23-25, 27-25, 25-19, 15-9) in one of the most dramatic matches of the day.

Brazil also remained perfect and improved to 5-0 after a 3-1 (19-25, 25-21, 25-22, 25-12) victory over Egypt. The result handed the North Africans their first defeat of the tournament. Croatia dominated their double duty with two sweeps against India 3-0 (25-7, 25-10, 25-3) and Australia 3-0 (25-8, 25-10, 25-9), while Japan celebrated their first win by beating the Netherlands 3-0 (25-23, 26-24, 25-23).

On the women’s side, Brazil strengthened its position at the top of the standings with another straight-set victory, beating Canada 3-0 (25-23, 25-16, 25-17) to remain unbeaten through four matches.

The United States also impressed, beating Germany 3-0 (25-18, 25-14, 25-10) to bounce back and record their third straight win after an opening day defeat to Italy. The Italians, meanwhile, improved to 2-2 after a convincing 3-0 (25-13, 25-12, 25-23) result against the Netherlands to keep their semi-final hopes alive.

As the preliminary round comes to an end, three teams remain undefeated: Kazakhstan and Brazil in the men’s bracket, and Brazil in the women’s bracket. The final day of prelude continues on Thursday before the knockout rounds begin.
