On Sunday, the Atlanta Braves organization saw three of the four on the last day of the season fall for Rome and Augusta, but there were still many highlights. Whether it was a dominant outing of JR Ritchie, six one-hit innings by Jacob Shafer, or loud performances on the record of Cody Miller, Dixon Williams, and especially John Gil, there were many things that were worth watching despite the losing day.
Durham Bulls 4, Gwinnett Stripers 2
- Eddys Leonard, 3B: 2-3, R, .237/.304/.439
- Conner Capel, RF: 2-2, 2B, 2 BB, RBI, SB, .218/.302/.344
- JR Ritchie, SP: 6 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 4 K, 2.79 ERA
JR Ritchie handed in a dominant start on Sunday and threw six Shutout -Innings because he allowed only two hits and three walks in the trial. Ritchie, who saw his Triple-A era fall in this game, threw four out and took eight whiffs during an outing of 93 pitch. With this start, Ritchie has now made nine starts for 48.1 innings with Gwinnett, with a 2.79 ERA, 1.01 Whip and 9.3 k/9, numbers not far from his seasonal numbers of 2.52 ERA, 0.97 Whip and 9.0 K/9 between three levels. Unfortunately, the pen was unable to match Ritchie’s efforts and the stripers came to the losing end. Austin Cox followed Ritchie and he gave up a few runs in a collection. The next one was Davis Daniel, who allowed two own points – although more than two innings.
Offensive were the two star Eddys Leonard and Conner Capel, each of whom had two hit games. Capel actually reached the basis he hit all four times, while walking twice, doubled, a base stable, hit a run and had an outfield assist. Leonard crashed twice and scored one of the stripers runs. Apart from the two, the attack did not exist here, such as the rest of the line-up combined for one hit. Jesus Bastidas hit a single for the only other hit and took a walk, while the only other player reached the base was Jonathan Ornelas during a walk.
Montgomery cookies 2, Columbus Clingstones 0
- Cal Conley, 2B: 3-4, SB, .200/.260/.243
- Ian Anderson, SP: 4 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 0 BB, 5 K, 4.50 ERA
- Elison Joseph: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K, 3.96 ERA
In his second start since mid-june, Ian Anderson looked better than earlier this week, when he fought at the command and could not get through the second inning. In this, Anderson allowed two points on three hits and no walks over four innings, and threw five and took 13 swings and misses. Both points scored in the fifth inning, on a two-run Homer through former Rays’s second round Pick Brock Jones. Brian Moran followed with two and two -thirds scoreless innings, before Cory Wall and Elison Joseph threw a scoreless frame each to complete the pitching. Combined, the stones only allocated the two runs on seven hits and no walks with nine strikeouts.
Despite the nice effort of the pitching of Columbus, they came out of the losing end because the Line -Up could not set up any attack. Cal Conley was at the forefront and went three for four with a stolen base, but the rest of the line -up combined for four singles and three walks on the way to the outside. Adam Zebrowski was the only player outside of Conley to reach the base several times, while he hung and ran. Ambioris Tavarez went four for four in the loss.
Hub City Spartanburgers 6, Rome Keizers 1
- Isaiah Drake, CF: 1-3, .303/.346/.336
- Cody Miller, SS: 2-3, BB, R, .297/.357/.422
- Riley Frey, RP: 5.2 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 4 K, 1.32 ERA
Rome sent Adam Maier out to start in their season finale. Maier lasted two innings and allowed four points on three hits and a few walks that took the loss. Riley Frey was next to the pitch and had an excellent game from the pen. Frey went three and a third scoreless innings, making only one hit and no walks with four strikeouts possible. Rob Griswold was the third Rome world and he allowed a point while taking the last two out in the sixth inning. After a scoreless framework of Justin Long, Logan Samuels came in for the eighth and he allowed one point during his inning.
The attack did not do much, although a few of the top perspectives in the team (probably) ended their seasons on high notes. Cody Miller went two by three with a walk and scored a point to bring his Rome Ops to .779 in 16 games here after he was promoted from Augusta. Another man who was promoted in the season was Isaiah Drake, who went one by three with a hit to keep his stroke average with Rome at .303. Colby Jones, Mason Guerra and Justin Janas also added singles to the loss. Second round Pick Alex Lodise was not on the line for the last match of the emperor, so he closed the season that went for his last 17 with three extra basehits.
Augusta Greenjackets 10, Kannapolis Cannon Ballers 0
- Tate Southisene, 2B: 1-4, BB, R, RBI, .219/.242/.297
- John Gil, SS: 1-4, HR, BB, 2 R, 2 RBI, SB, .257/.353/.377
- Dixon Williams, DH: 2-4, 2B, BB, 2 R, RBI, 2 SB, .269/.395/.462
- Jacob Shafer, SP: 6 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 3 K, 2.12 ERA
- Carter Lovasz, RP: 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 4 K, 9.00 ERA
For their last game of the season, the Greenjackets turned to Ace Jacob Shafer, and he certainly delivered. Shachaer threw six no-hit, Shutoutinings, but left after six because his pitch count was 87. Shachaer ran three and threw three, while he lowered his era to 2.12 and hit 1.12 over 34 innings. He was followed by recent Trekpick Carter Lovasz, who went two scoreless innings, who allowed a hit and two walks while they hit four. The last inning was a scoreless and Hitless, inning by Owen Hackman. Combined the three Augusta -throwers who excludes Kannapolis, while they only allowed one hit in the ball game.
The Augusta attack closed the season with a loud output on Sunday. John Gil was at the forefront, hit his seventh Homer and stealed his 50th base during his 100 games here. Gil’s power began to arrive late in the season, because five of those seven homers have come since 1 August, and he has since also hit 10 of his 25 Doubles in the year. Recent draftee Dixon Williams went two by four with a double walk, two points scored, one smashed and two stolen bases. The first round Pick Tate Southisene closed his season with a single and a walk in five trips to the album, while Owen Carey baseed a single and Juan Mateo added a few singles. UndDrafted Free Agent Signing Tanner Smith also added an extra single when he doubled and stole the third base.
