Atlanta claimed Bido off waivers last week. The 30-year-old right back had spent the 2025 season with the A’s. Bido made Mark Kotsay’s season-opening rotation. He was hit hard through nine starts and moved up to Triple-A in mid-May. The A’s brought him back a few weeks later, but used him in relief for the rest of the season. He made just one more start, a three-inning outing against the Tigers in which he gave up four runs.
Bido did not pitch particularly well in either role. He struggled to a 5.87 average over 79 2/3 innings across 26 appearances. He did manage to strike out a whopping 27% of batters after the All-Star Break, but even that promise was undermined by the whopping 2.30 home run rate allowed per nine innings. Bido has just under 200 big league innings in his career between the A’s and Pirates. He owns a 5.07 ERA with a 20.9% strikeout rate.
Atlanta has five days to trade Bido or put him on waivers. He has never been drafted outright and has played less than three years in the Major League, so he would not have the right to opt for free agency if he goes through unclaimed waivers.
