The Atlanta Braves have traded backup outfielders to their 40-man roster, with the team announcing that outfielder Michael Siani has been claimed off waivers from the St. Louis Cardinals, while also sharing that outfielder Jake Fraley has been claimed off waivers by the Tampa Bay Rays.
The 26-year-old Siani made his debut with the Cincinnati Reds in 2022, but spent the past few seasons with the Cardinals. A defensive primary outfielder who has played a lot of center field, he only played in 19 games for the big league club in 2025, but saw action in 124 games in 2024. He has a career 58 wRC+ in 160 games. He does have value at the base — rating in the 96th percentile in 2024 — while stealing 20 bases with the Cardinals.
Fraley, who the Braves claimed off waivers from the Reds in mid-August last season, played in just nine games with Atlanta before being lost for the season due to injury. Fraley,30, has a career 101 wRC+ in 468 career games. He was teammates with Siani at the Reds.
Fraley seemed like an option to return to Atlanta in 2026, given near-league average offensive production with acceptable defense. He will be eligible for arbitration for the final time this season.
Siani could provide depth if he remains on the 40-man roster as a reserve outfielder and pinch-runner.
It was a busy day for Atlanta, mostly clearing roster spots now that the competition is five days out from the World Series.
