Brandon Nimmo said a fond farewell to Mets fans on Monday.
The career Met, who is now a member of the Rangers following a trade on Sunday, called his time with the organization a “dream” and an “honor.”
“To the fans I will always hold near and dear,” Nimmo wrote in a post on Instagram. “There is really no way I can adequately express how much my tenure with the Mets has meant to me. All I can say is thank you. Thank you Mets fans for embracing and welcoming a kid from Cheyenne, Wyoming to the Big Apple.
“I always aspired to be a major league player. I never thought I would have the opportunity to make that dream come true in a city so passionate about baseball. The past fourteen years have felt like a dream, and it was an absolute honor to share it with you. You made me feel like family, and I hope you felt the same. I will always be grateful for our time and memories together. With love, always.”
Nimmo was traded to the Rangers on Sunday for second baseman Marcus Semien.
Nimmo waived his no-trade clause to make the deal possible in hopes of winning a World Series in Texas.
The transaction was made official on Monday and a statement from owners Steve and Alex Cohen thanked him for his time in Queens.
“Brandon represented our organization with heart, courage and passion,” they wrote. “He embodied everything it meant to be a Met, both on and off the field. We are grateful for everything he gave to our team and our community. We wish Brandon, Chelsea and Tatum all the best.”
Nimmo spent 10 years with the Mets after the club selected him 13th overall in the 2011 MLB Draft.
During that time with the Mets, Nimmo had a .262 batting average, 135 home runs and 463 RBIs.
