Why Brandon Curry Uses the Chest Pullover Machine
“Now I like to use a pullover machine to target the chest because I don’t want to fool around with dumbbells,” the jacked bodybuilder joked, noting that machines allow one to train hard without the same risk of injury as free weights. While the classic dumbbell pullover or flat bench press requires you to lie down on a bench and hover a huge weight above your head, the pullover machine puts a person in a seated position and moves the weight along a set path.
How to Make Chest Pullover Machines (Brandon Curry’s Method)
To prepare, Curry explained that you won’t be using the elbow pads to shift the weight. Instead, with your arms straight, grab the top bar with a pronated (overhand) grip “and stretch, behind the head,” the big man advised. Then, “Get that butt back and stretch better. You can stretch better if you don’t arch your back,” Curry explains of his position while seated.
Once you’ve extended your arms for the stretch, the next step is to lower the bar. “Push through the chest,” Curry said, until the edge of the pillow was level with the center of the chest. “And that’s all you need to aim for the chest,” the coach confirms. “If you go any lower, you bring the lats in,” he explained.
“The Prodigy” also noted that compared to free weights, he can push the load to failure more safely, knowing that the machine will keep him safe. “Try it,” said the bodybuilder enthusiastically. Now go pump up those pecs.
