Brady Tkachuk and Team USA have been in the spotlight for different reasons over the past five days. Winning gold at the Winter Olympics for the first time since 1980’s ‘Miracle on Ice’ was just the beginning, and there’s plenty to come in the aftermath.

That video started with an AI-edited clip of Tkachuk supposedly talking about Canada, in which he says, “They booed our national anthem, so I had to come out and teach that maple syrup-eating ***** a lesson.”
Now that Tkachuk is back in Ottawa, ready to resume a crucial home stretch of the season with the Senators, he was asked about the video, reassuring that he wasn’t too fond of it.
Tkachuk said:
“Well, it’s obviously fake because it’s not my voice and it’s not my lips that are moving. I have no control over any of those accounts. I know those words would never come out of my mouth. So I can’t do anything about it.”
It’s not my voice. It’s not what I said. I would never say that. That’s not who I am, so I guess I don’t like that video because that would never come out of my mouth, and I never had that thought either,”
The 26-year-old Tkachuk had a solid Olympic tournament, producing five points (three goals, two assists) in six games en route to winning a gold medal.
Like Toronto Maple Leafs captain Auston Matthews, Tkachuk finds himself in a very difficult situation as captain of the Senators, no matter what he says, and they in particular have had to face it head-on as they returned to their home NHL cities.
All the off-ice antics are in the news right now, but Tkachuk in particular will have to turn the page. Ottawa faces a steep uphill climb just to get back into the playoffs, and after making the postseason for the first time with this core group last year, missing the season next year won’t sit well with the organization or the fan base.
