After winning the toss, Chattogram opted to field first, hoping that their bowling attack could stop Rajshahi on a surface that was expected to slow down later in the evening. Hasan, however, shifted the momentum towards Rajshahi’s advantage.
Rajshahi’s innings was based on a solid opening stand between Tanzid Hasan and Sahibzada Farhan. The pair added 83 runs for the first wicket in 10.2 overs, giving Rajshahi a solid platform. Farhan played the supporting role with 30 off 30 balls but it was Tanzid who looked clinical.
After Farhan’s dismissal, Tanzid continued to anchor the innings and forged a crucial 47-run partnership with Kane Williamson. The experienced New Zealand batsman’s 24 off 15 balls ensured that the scoring rate was healthy during the middle overs. Tanzid brought up his third T20 century from 61 deliveries and became only the third batsman after Tamim Iqbal and Chris Gayle to score a hundred in a BPL final. His innings of 100 off 62 balls, with six fours and seven sixes, took Rajshahi to 174 for 4. Mukidul Islam (2/20) and Shoriful Islam (2/33) were the standout bowlers for Chattogram.
Chasing 175, Chattogram’s innings never looked like it was in the hunt. Binura Fernando removed Mohammad Naim and Mahmudul Hasan Joy in the same time and left the Royals reeling. Hasan Murad then dismissed Hasan Nawaz, captain Mahedi Hasan and Mirza Baig, who top scored with 39.
Fernando returned to dismantle the lower middle order, finishing with figures of 4 for 9, while Murad claimed 3 for 15. Despite some fighting from Asif Ali, Chattogram slumped to 111 in 17.5 overs, falling far short of the target.
