UFC 324 suffered a major blow just under two weeks before the event when UFC women’s bantamweight champion Kayla Harrison was forced to withdraw from her bout with Amanda Nunes due to injury.
Harrison, who won the UFC women’s bantamweight championship at UFC 316, suffered a neck injury during camp and will undergo surgery soon. She is expected to miss about six months before being medically cleared to compete.
As of this writing, it is uncertain whether or not Nunes will remain on the card or remain on the sidelines amid Harrison’s absence. Top prospect Norma Dumont recently called her up for a short notice booking at UFC 324.
But another top name, world boxing champion Amanda Serrano, is looking to resume her three-fight MMA career on short notice against the greatest of all time.
Amanda Serrano sends a message to UFC’s Amanda Nunes ahead of UFC 324
In a recent one tweetSerrano sent a message to Nunes and the UFC brass ahead of UFC 324.
“If UFC and Amanda Nunes are thinking of a replacement, I would love the challenge as I am still in fighting shape,” Serrano posted on Wednesday.
“I hope the champion recovers well.”
Serrano made her professional MMA debut in April 2018, fighting to a draw against Corina Herrera. She scored back-to-back wins in 2018 and 2021 and hasn’t fought inside the cage since iKON FC 7.
Serrano is considered one of the greatest female boxers in the history of the sport. Most recently, she defeated Reina Tellez on January 3 to retain her featherweight titles. The win snapped a two-fight losing streak for Katie Taylor.
At the time of writing, the UFC’s plans for Nunes are uncertain, as is a potential signing for Serrano. In the meantime, hats off to Serrano for expressing his willingness to do the best in the toughest of circumstances.
